DAY 8 – Breaking the fast

Today was the first day that I was like: Okey I might be ready for some food again… That was the reason I broke my fast in the evening. I felt like any extra day would have meant stress for my body and that is what I’m trying to avoid.

I started of with some fresh pressed orange-lime juice and munshed on a few oranges and an apple. I could not believe how sugary they were although the oranges here normally taste very watery. And I am so glad I did that. I don’t know what will happen to my skin but I am convinced that it is more important to listen to your body and gut instinct. You should never push yourself to go longer than you are comfortable with. No one knows your body and what it needs. The most important thing is to listen to what you believe is best for yourself.

Skin update- acne cleared up?

My skin cleared up so much during those 8 days. I was so glad about that. The texture has gone down a lot and I would say it improved about 70%. The redness is still there. I am very happy about that because I really didn’t want to prolong this fast.

Right now I am informing myself about post-fast diets and what to eat. I am just a little concerned about gaining exess weight . Fat and water is also used to store toxins in your body. When the toxins go, your fat and water goes, the Inflammation and therefore pimples go. For my skin to completely heal up, would have taken a little bit longer than 8 days but those 8 days really really did help!

But there is something else that I realised and learned about my skin during this time. I am pretty convinced that the origin of my rash/ pimples is a food allergy that caused perioral dermatitis. Right now I am trying to find out what caused it since I am not able to take an allergy test during my travelling. I do not wanna go into too much detail but the main reason I am convinced that this is not normal acne is, that it doesn’t ever heal up if you know what I mean. The same little bump will stay there for weeks. It is very likely that this is a fungus or an allergic reaction.

Although fasting helped my skin a lot, it is not done yet. Finding out the trigger will be my next step. I am glad that I did it… not just for my skin but for my health. I would Insert some pictures of how my skin looks right know but you can’t see the skin texture on them…  Idk let me know if I should Insert them anyway.

Conclusion fasting

· helps to reduce inflammation

· clears up skin when nothing else is working

· if you are not following a healthy lifestyle, maybe you don’t have to take drastic measurements like fasting. Start by cutting out dairy, sugars, refined oils for a while and see if it helps

· for fasting you need a lot of time to sleep and rest

· I would recommend doing smaller fasting periods from time to time

· listen to your body and do not force yourself into going any further than you feel comfortable with

· weight loss helps your body to get rid of fat that is stored in your body for years and holds toxins and excess water. Maybe you will gain some weight back if you are not careful but it will not be the stubborn fat that you lost… I am not so sure about myself though…feeling pretty hungry…:)

Day 6-7| 10 day water fast detoxing

DAY 6 • I recon everyone is talking about christmas and I’m over here fasting lol. I guess it’s due to the hot weather. I feel like I get very caky-cookie-pudding during the winter and then I crave more comforting foods.

DAY 4-5 | 10 day water fast| detoxing and dehydration

Day 4 • I am still drinking lots of water. Strangely my pee was very stinky and yellow today (TMI again – sorry).

Important:  I heard that if you hold many toxins in your body, your ability to retain water decreases and you are probably dehydrated. And I know that this may be me. I always drink lots and lots of water and my skin is still looking dull and dry and my pee (i dont like the word urine – excuse) still is yellowish. At least this would make sense. Day 2-3| 10 day water fast

DAY 2• Not eating was easy on day two. I felt like I had lots of energy and because I was planning on doing a 3-day-fast at this point, I wasn’t caring too much about carefully portioning the energy that is left. starting 10 day water fast for clear skin

Currently I am writing about my fasting experience while doing it. But I thought, hey you know what? Why don’t I just share every single day like a diary. Keep it short and sweet. So I’ll keep you guys updated.

It just so happened that I was watching videos about water fasting these last days and researching the benefits of fasting. People talk about food allergies disappearing, illnesses leaving just because your body is getting some rest from digesting and time for healing itself. Weight gain on Rawtill4| vegan dies

I’m still not quite sure if I want to mention that I was following the rawtill4 Diet (which is known amongst many vegans). But when I started to see some side effects I was searching the Internet for “initial weight gain on rawtill4” , “hair loss on a vegan diet” and “acne detox on rawtill4” like crazy.

I followed the rawtill4 Diet religiously for 1 year  (only thing I need to mention is, that I was eating gluten as well). I gained 33 Ibs after 8 month into this diet.
I still don’t know why it took my 1 year to realize that something is off. I also broke out pretty bad and after 9 month my hair started to fall out.

I researched and read so much because I really wanted this to work. Gaining Weight wasn’t really the worst part for me during that time. Having bad skin was making me feel quite insecure.
Because so many people are reporting about initial weight gain, I didn’t question what was happening.

I think the main thing you have to consider is, that everyone is different and  if your body is not responding well to a diet you  need to adjust.

Eating as much as you want ?

I always tried to hit the 2500 cal mark as recommended. I added sugar into my smoothies stuffed myself with pasta. My body was not able to cope with so many calories since I was not needing them.

IMG_2864Not to mention that sugar has no nutritional value in itself and I should have eaten more whole foods instead of empty calories.

Not all carbohydrates are automatically good for your body…  “white” foods (refined) are acidic and need to be neutralized with minerals . They could also leave you craving even more food because your body is still lacking nutrients.

Reading myself into the alkaline diet was helping a lot and made so much sense to me. A plant based vegan diet is mostly alkaline, if it doesn’t include too much “white”. You don’t  need to add extra sugar into your smoothies or eat 10 bananas for breakfast  (by the way, bananas broke me out pretty bad!). Maybe eating 4 would be more beneficial for you.

I am not an expert but generally speaking “eating when you are hungry and stopping when you are full” seems to work pretty well. Not eating when your body doesn’t want to has nothing to to with starving yourself.

Gluten sensitivity?

I found out that I am a celiac. I read that about 30% of the population show some form of gluten sensitivity. Gluten can cause inflammation in the body and cause acne as well as water retention or weight gain in general. Cutting out Gluten for a few weeks  can be helpful to see if you show some kind of reaction.

 

Right now I’m not counting calories and my body is slowly healing from the damage… I just wish that someone would have told me about some of those things.

After all I have lost about 12 kg since last year and I do not pay much attention to calories. I  try to eat as healthy as possible (or as I want to)  but I do not restrict myself…

 

I do not believe in metabolic damage….sure some weight gain might be normal but not 33 Ibs… I mean come on..haha
